The entire video only uses two or three camera shots. A Birds
eye view from the top of the lift and one from the back left corner. The
framing is similar to that of a security camera.
The song uses limited space, and instead uses the characters
and a small scenery change to convey the story and themes. It also contains
Easter eggs for other Radiohead songs
He narrative uses over the top and exaggerated characters
give a commentary. The old lady is depicted as smaller than average and incredibly
fearful, protecting her goods. There are also over exaggerated depictions of
businessmen and professionals, who are all depicted as crazy and extreme.
The video does not feature any performance, but does however
feature the lead singer of the band as the main character.
The very end of the video contains a shaky-cam following the
lead as he walks out of the lift. The outside is a reflection of the lift and
features a double of the main character. This a reference to continuity, and a
never ending cycle, which is also referenced in the lyrics of the song. This could
be seen as a commentary to the music industry, as artists are expected to churn
out songs continuously in order to remain relevant.
This video holds quite a lot of inspiration for a video such as mine, which would have to be filmed in small spaces, or on a small budget. the use of camera angles could lead to a very unique perspective, and the way in which the narrative is portrayed in the scenery could be very useful in exploring how intertextuality can be used.
The video is not perfect however, this song would not be considered within the dance genre, meaning the style would have to change drastically. It is also very simple in its design and aesthetic, which means that the complex ideas that the brief expects you to explore would be difficult to reach.
